- "Before then end of life he had seen beauty. He had trusted and been trusted." This quote shows that Cole can now recognize the worlds beauty and with this he is now more human and has come to peace with his feelings.
- "As gusts of wind drove the chill deeper into his body, rain kept falling, penetrating his will, seeping into his consciousness, and flooding his soul. This rain fully intended to kill." The meaning and pain in this quote is so strong. I can really feel how Cole feels because of how descriptive it is. It is intended to pull you in and make you feel a prat of the story.
- "food was energy, and energy was life." This is the moment Cole decided he wanted to live, this was the moment Cole had to provide for himself in order to save his life. This quote shows strength
- "Cole forced his hand forward until his fingers touched the bears moist white coat. If he was going to die, he wanted to know what the animal felt like that killed him." This quote shows that Cole has come to peace with what he did the the bear and what me did to himself. So, as he lay on his death bed he excepts and feels sorry for all he has done to harm himself and others
- "Cole watched the the white patch of hair. It floated on the water, and the breeze tugged it out away from the dock." This symbolizes all of Cole's anger being pulled away from him and it shows he has final learnt how to not worry about how people see him but only as he sees himself.
